I address a personal history of absence and
loss by natural disaster through actions such as mending, patching, and
reconstructing. I consider these practices to be healing both in a physical and
emotional sense. As I work on surfaces with my hands, fabric becomes skin, a
building becomes a shell, and a photograph becomes a vessel. These ideas of
containment (skin/shell/vessel) are tied to feelings of security within a
space or within oneself.
