Mona's artist statement

Mona Reeder
Artist’s statement
Fall 2014

After dipping a tentative toe in the color photography pool with a recent body of work, my current project wholeheartedly embraces richly saturated tones as I continue my exploration of different techniques, and documentary styles and methods.  From the corner of my eye, I’m drawn to fleeting moments of light and shadows and who or what passes through them.

Often I wait for hours for the light to be right, for the moment to happen, waiting to create an opportunity to explore permutations of mood and color, form and motion – to experiment with the diverse abilities that these properties have for communicating.

While this exhibit is grouped into fragmented vignettes pieced together by mood and color, I’m interested in a dialogue examining how these various possibilities mesh with documentary approaches and narratives.

These photographs are made with a 35mm digital camera using only natural light and printed digitally.
